All About Us

Our Story

The Gospel Armory Main Street Mission Church, or the Main Street Mission, was founded by Victor Johnsey on the first sunday in May of 1999. It was previously a Christian Bookstore owned and operated by Victor and his wife in the historic downtown district of Marion, VA. In 1998, the Lord led them to start a Friday Night Gospel Sing at the bookstore to help business. It wasn't long before these singings turned into God worshipping Holy Ghost church services without our effort or pre-meditation. The God-ordained purpose for this storefront building was now being realized. By God's grace the store went out of business in '99 and, shortly after, Victor surrendered to the Lord's will and Sunday morning services were started.

Victor is now the Senior Pastor of the Main Street Mission. We also have more services now than in the beginning.

Sunday School - 10:00am
Sunday Morning Worship - 11:00am
Mission Service - 4th Thursday @ 6:15pm
Friday Night Gospel Sing - 1st Friday @ 6:00pm

The Lord is using and blessing all of these services in mighty ways. If you are ever in the area and can be with us, we would love to have you; a map and directions are provided at the bottom of this page for your convenience. Apart from our weekly services, we are privileged to be able to take part in various community events, and share the Lord with the community.

  • Hallelujah Celebration - October - Halloween - Games, costume contest, candy, candy and more candy. Great Christian alternative to Halloween.
  • Friday Night Gospel Sings! - As the Lord leads, the Mission has Friday Night Gospel Sings! Sometimes these are at the Mission and sometimes they are "On The Road!"
  • Other events as opportunities present themselves.
The Mission has many talented members and, as a result, has some great music ministries. Worship at the Mission is very musical, led by Pastor Allen, as well as many special singers like the Mini-Missionaries and Children's Church.  Brother Bobby Rouse of The Evangelaires is a member of our church and graciously shares his talent with the church as well.

As our name implies, we operate as a street mission. Our facilities are not adequate, as yet, to provide services of a full rescue mission, but that is part of the vision God gave us. Some of the services we provide are a food distribution service, an emergency food pantry, a clothing closet, and furniture and household items as donations are made. We work closely with the Second Harvest food bank of Abingdon, VA and some other area churches. The amount of food that moves through the Mission is truly miraculous. To God be all the glory.

Thank you for stopping by our site. We hope that it is a blessing and that you'll come back soon!
God's Mission. . .Our Mission. . .Main Street Mission

Habakkuk 2:2 says to write the vision plainly so that everyone that reads it will pick it up and run with it! (paraphrase). The Lord has given a Vision at the Mission to both Pastors that entails many various future aspects. In order to accomplish this Vision, we must unite around a common Mission.  God's Mission. . .Our Mission. . .Main Street Mission!  Here it is, written down. Let's pick it up and take off!

The Mission of the Main Street Mission is to Develop and Grow a local body of Believers that Evangelizes the Lost, Meets the Physical and Spiritual needs of the community and stands as the Salt of the Earth and the Light of the World, like a City on a Hill, all to the Glory of God!
What We Believe

The Main Street Mission is an independent, fundamental, evangelical, Christian church.

Following is Article II, Section I of our Constitution and By-Laws; Doctrine and Covenant:

Our doctrinal stand is the Bible. We believe the Bible is the Word of God, that it is infallible and that the King James Version is the best version we have, to date. We believe in the Bible fundamentally, that is we accept the golden rule of Bible interpretation, "When the plain sense of scripture makes common sense, seek no other sense, but take every word at its primary, literal meaning, unless the facts of the immediate context clearly indicate otherwise." Furthermore, we believe in a triune God (I Jn. 5:7), and the deity of Christ(Mt. 16:15-17). We believe that salvation can only come through the blood of Jesus Christ (I Pet. 1:18-19). We believe that while not a requirement of salvation (Jn. 5:24), we should follow our Lord's command of baptism by immersion, thereby publicly proclaiming our belief in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Mt. 28:19). We believe in eternal punishment in Hell for the lost (Rev. 20:11-12,15), and eternal life in Heaven for the saved (Jn. 3:16).

This is a list of some of the beliefs our church holds to be true, however, we believe in the unity of all believers (Eph. 4:2-6) and endeavour to keep and develop that unity. Diversity is welcome and celebrated except for in the most fundamental doctrines, the most fundamental being salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection for our sins.
