City on a Hill
Jesus said, "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Mt. 5:13-16)
Socially/Politically Active for the Cause of Christ!
Jesus teaches us in the above passage to be the light of the world, salt of the earth and a City on a Hill. A city is a political entity and we believe that Jesus would not want us to be quiet and not practice our rights as citizens when it comes to political or social issues. The work of salt is to preserve and improve things. The Main Street Mission is not part of any political party and does not officially endorse any party or candidate, but being a Christian does effect every area of our lives. Let us be a preserving and changing influence in every area of our world as we stand up for what is good and right for the Glory of God!

Let us remember as we pursue this ministry to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. To be slow to anger and not to be offended, but to rejoice when we are persecuted for Christ's sake. Meekness and humility are a necessity, but being a doormat and letting anyone walk all over us because we're Christians is not! Sometimes we have to make a whip and clear a place out.
